JOBSUMMARY:
Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) welcomesyou to apply for the position of Dean of the College of Arts and BehavioralSciences. The Dean ofthe College reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs andis responsible for the administration of fourteen academic departments: Art,Communication, Criminal Justice, English, History, Geography, ForeignLanguages, Music, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Rhetoric andProfessional Writing, Sociology, and Theater. The College also oversees the Mastersin Public Administration program.
ESSENTIALDUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as Chief Academic Officer of the College of Arts and Behavioral Sciences
Provide leadership for short-term and long-term strategic planning including developing and enhancing academic programs, both traditional and online in the College
Manage College budget, course scheduling, and staff
Oversee recruitment, supervision and professional development of a strong and diverse faculty and staff.
Participate in university governance and functions, including service on standing and ad hoc committees
Assist the SVSU Foundation with donor cultivation and fund-raising
Represent the College to external constituencies
Work with faculty and the Office of Sponsored Programs on grant development
Promote and facilitate interdisciplinary programming and collaboration within the College and across the University
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS: Hold an earned doctoral degree and provide evidence of scholarly and professional achievement sufficient for appointment as a Professor in one of the programs within the College.
Significant administrative experience at the level of department chair or higher, including fiscal and budgetary responsibility, faculty development and experience with assessment and accreditation processes.
Strong commitment to and proven leadership in participatory governance within the university.
Evidence of successful grant procurement and administration
Evidence of strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with internal and external constituents.
Demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity and equal opportunity.
Evidence of high standards of both professional integrity and ethics.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.
PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in a collective bargaining setting.
WORKINGCONDITIONS:
Dutiesare generally performed inside and not exposed to adverse conditions.
Thisposition requires some nights and weekends.
