Licensed Psychiatrist Job Description

Position Overview: Under the direction and supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the Licensed Psychiatrist is responsible for overseeing and providing clinical supervision to the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and the Physician Assistant for all psychiatric services rendered to CPBH patients. The Licensed Psychiatrist ensures high-quality psychiatric care, participates in patient assessments, and collaborates with the clinical team to develop and update treatment plans.

Supervision Received:

  • Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Supervision Exercised:

  • Clinical Supervision: Provides clinical guidance to the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Nurses, MSW Associates, Interns, and Direct Care Staff.
  • Does not provide administrative supervision to employees.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Medical Director to all CPBH LLC facilities.
  • Provide psychiatric supervision to all CPBH LLC mid-level providers such as nurse practitioners and physician’s assistants.
  • Provide psychiatric evaluations and follow-ups of CPBH LLC patients, including laboratory evaluation, medication management and other related psychiatric services, on weekends and any other days mutually agreed upon and as required, working within a multi-disciplinary team approach.
  • May participate in organized clinical staff activities or consultations with clients’ conservators, family members, or other authorized representatives.
  • Complete Exhibits for conservatorship hearings as needed by Counties’ Public Guardians and Counties’ legal representatives.
  • Expert witness testimony may be requested during a client’s court hearing or in matters related to clients’ treatment modalities.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree : A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as biology, psychology, or pre-medicine.
  • Medical Degree : A Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.

Experience:

  • Clinical Experience : Minimum of two years of full-time work experience providing services directly to clients with mental health illnesses in a community program.

License/Certification Required:

  • Board Certification : Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) in psychiatry.
  • CA State Medical License : A valid and unrestricted license to practice medicine in California.
  • DEA License : Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fellowship training in a psychiatric subspecialty (e.g., child and adolescent psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, addiction psychiatry).
  • Experience in various clinical settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and emergency psychiatry.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
