We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Psychiatrist to lead and manage mental health services within a secure correctional facility in Leavenworth, Kansas . This is a full-time, permanent position for a licensed psychiatric physician who is passionate about delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to underserved populations. You will play a critical leadership role in overseeing mental health treatment and fostering a therapeutic environment for both patients and clinical staff.
Key ResponsibilitiesConduct psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, and medication management for individuals in custody
Lead and oversee the facility's mental health program, ensuring quality, compliance, and clinical effectiveness
Supervise and support on-site mental health professionals including therapists, counselors, and other clinical staff
Provide individual, group, and family counseling when appropriate
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement treatment plans
Participate in civil commitment processes and hearings as needed
Ensure all mental health services adhere to regulatory, institutional, and ethical standards
Promote a safe, respectful, and therapeutic environment for patients and staff
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) with specialization in Psychiatry
Active license to practice Psychiatry in the State of Kansas , or eligibility to obtain one prior to start
Minimum 5 years of clinical psychiatric experience , with at least 2 years in a correctional or leadership role
Proven skills in crisis intervention, staff supervision, and mental health program development
Exceptional communication, decision-making, and organizational skills
Valid U.S. driver's license
Predictable full-time schedule with no private practice overhead
